Workforce professionals often focus on predicting which skills will be needed in the future. An equally important question is: Which skills will always matter to employers regardless of industry or sector? We call them core employability skills, e.g., critical thinking, communication, which help people succeed in any role and have become even more important for business success. Even though most employers agree these skills matter, they typically lack access to an evidence-based framework, a valid and reliable way to measure them, and proven training solutions. We will discuss this issue in this snapshot session and share how we are addressing it. Specifically, we will introduce an evidence-based employability skills framework, developed via a partnership between an education-and-workforce research organization and a national association representing chamber of commerce professionals. Development and applications of this framework for assessment and training will also be discussed.
