Designing a user-centric testing system requires a great deal of research to validate or invalidate any assumptions about the people who will be using it. This means working with real user groups to understand the goals, habits, and challenges of educators and students (especially young learners) when navigating online assessments. How does user research shape design? How do legal accessibility requirements factor in? And how do we ensure the system supports all users equitably? There are several factors to consider when we think about access for test-takers, educators, and other agents in digital assessment. This presentation will explore how user insights influence assessment platform development. We’ll outline our approach to identifying user groups, conducting research, and translating findings into actionable design decisions. We’ll also share key takeaways from our user group sessions, offering a window into how user-centered design drives innovation in digital assessment.
