With over 240 million children with disabilities worldwide and nearly 15% of all students in the United States eligible for special education services, educators must be able to provide assessment tools to accommodate the needs of all learners, regardless of the learning environment. Effective digital assessment tools offer unique solutions to traditional issues around inclusivity by providing accommodation tools and taking accessibility into account from the ground up. However, many of the assessment tools available today are retrofitted for accessibility rather than designed for accessibility as the primary concern. When accessibility becomes an inherent requirement of a testing system, the benefits for usability and maintenance are clear. This session will explore how to ensure digital testing solutions align with global accessibility standards, including WCAG and the European Accessibility Act, and offer practical strategies for implementing equitable, inclusive assessments.
