Invited Session: UK Apprenticeship Assessment at the Crossroads: What Works, What Fails, What's Coming
Description

This session examines apprenticeship assessment across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, analysing how each system places different values on the process and outcomes and reviewing the supporting evidence for the various strengths and weaknesses of all approaches.
Skills shortages, fragmented assessment approaches, increasing regulatory burden, and uncertainty around England's EPA reforms create significant challenges for UK apprenticeship quality and employer confidence.
In addition to unpacking the challenges faced and comparing the different systems and values, the session will examine the assessment methods used in the UK and explore the benefits of work-based assessment methods and their value to both learners and employers.

Leading the session will be Daniel Green, Policy Director at the Federation of Awarding Bodies. Leading FAB's Policy Team, Daniel represents the 130+ awarding body members that are part of FAB. His insight on apprenticeship assessment, and his understanding of the experience of UK awarding bodies positions him as the definitive voice on UK apprenticeship policy, practice & transformation.

Daniel will explain why we're at this new crossroads in the journey, call out what works, what fails and will examine the debates shaping apprenticeship futures, offering European and international delegates crucial insights into the UK's mission to achieve vocational assessment excellence.
