Name
Responding to AI - Threat or Opportunity: Case Studies from Ireland’s Civil Service
Description

publicjobs are responsible for designing assessment processes that increase the likelihood of the most suitable candidates being assigned to the roles. In recent years, challenges emerged around AI usage in assessment exercises. Initially, publicjobs forbid AI usage and put a series of rules and checks in place to ensure candidates were not using AI. In 2025 we introduced a new approach: permitting candidates to engage in responsible AI usage. This presentation includes a Case Study, which details our journey from ‘prohibiting’ to permitting AI usage in final stage assessment exercises, for Graduate Recruitment. It will cover: -How we monitor and identify AI usage, including rules, deterrents and integrity checking tools -What to do when AI is identified or suspected - Our journey towards permitting responsible AI usage -Key Considerations and Best Practice -Impact on Assessment
