This session presents a case study of how industrial-organizational psychology and psychometric best practices can be embedded into workforce development systems to improve both efficiency and labor-market alignment. A national workforce development organization was using a selection process that made efficient student placement difficult and limited its ability to serve a broader population of students. It partnered with a research-and-technical assistance organization to develop, validate, and implement a new assessment system. The new system has not only transformed the organization’s internal processes but also provided a replicable model for other workforce development organizations seeking to integrate assessments into their program design and delivery. The session is particularly relevant for organizations seeking to operationalize skills-based assessment practices and strengthen alignment between work-based learning and employment.
