Alex Miranda, M.A., ICE-CCP, is a credentialing professional and instructional designer with over a decade of experience in the certification industry. He serves as Assistant Director of Testing at the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, where he leads certification exam development operations and oversees exam appeals, testing accommodations, and training for subject matter experts (SMEs) and staff.
Alex is passionate about credentialing as a profession and the role high-quality credentials can play in protecting the public, recognizing competence, and creating meaningful pathways to workforce entry and advancement. His expertise spans the certification exam development lifecycle, with a particular focus on preparing and engaging SMEs to translate professional expertise into valid, defensible, standards-aligned assessment content. Drawing on his instructional design background, he also helps SMEs transform their expertise into effective learning and training experiences.
His work and research interests focus on the future of credentialing, including alternative pathways to certification, assessment-based certificate programs, accessibility, and equity. He is particularly interested in reducing unnecessary barriers while preserving the rigor, validity, and public-protection responsibilities that give credentials their value.
Alex holds an M.A. in Learning Design and Technology and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Education and Human Development with a concentration in Research and Evaluation Methods at the University of Colorado Denver. He serves as an Instructional Design Reviewer on I.C.E.’s Assessment-Based Certificate Accreditation Council and as a Public Member on the Certified Bariatric Nurse Certification Council. He is a recipient of I.C.E.’s 2025 NextGen Professional Award and frequently presents on SME training, exam development, accessibility and accommodations, and credentialing as a profession.
