Candidates often bring years of educational accommodation experiences with them to certification and licensure exams. When a testing program reaches a different accommodation decision, the result can be confusion, frustration, and difficult conversations. This cross-sector panel brings together perspectives from higher education disability services, professional credentialing, psychometrics, and test delivery to examine a common question in high-stakes testing: “I received this accommodation in school, so why can’t I receive the same accommodation on my certification exam?” Panelists will explore how candidate access needs, documentation standards, assessment purpose, construct relevance, security, cost, delivery feasibility, and operational constraints shape accommodation decisions across contexts. Attendees will leave with strategies for improving candidate communication and supporting decisions that are accessible, fair, valid, secure, and defensible.
