DIFferent Uses of DIF
Speakers

Description
Does your organization have multiple eligibility pathways? How about different educational accreditation mechanisms? Do you want to find people cheating with exam preknowledge? If so, then you could use the differential item functioning (DIF) framework!
DIF is a powerful tool that can do way more than assist item fairness committees. It can help explore how knowledge and skills manifest differently across policy-based subgroups.
We will demonstrate non-traditional applications of DIF analyses in three novel settings. First, we will apply DIF to inform the requirements for different eligibility pathways in a certification program. Second, we will apply DIF to an educational test to evaluate different college preparation programs to inform curricular changes to programs of study. Finally, we will describe how to flip DIF on its side to find people using "alternative means for success" in the form of item preknowledge. Whether new to DIF or an old pro, this one's for you!
