Description
Developing high-quality exams is both an art and a science, requiring careful coordination across various stages. This session presents evidence-based best practices for improving each phase of the exam development lifecycle, grounded in the principles of Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology. Attendees will learn how psychological theory and research can inform practical strategies for increasing validity, fairness, efficiency, and stakeholder satisfaction throughout the process, as well as how these strategies have been implemented in practice. Topics include optimizing subject matter expert (SME) recruitment and engagement, facilitating effective meetings, enhancing item writing and review practices, and aligning exam content with job requirements. Attendees will leave with tools to refine their current processes, support defensible outcomes, and better align exam development with the needs of both organizations and examinees.
