Dr. David M. Waldschmidt is the Senior Director of the American Dental Association’s (ADA’s) Department of Testing Services and the Director of the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE), where he leads a professional team in work that helps protect the public health. Dr. Waldschmidt has worked as a leader in the testing industry for over 25 years, serving as a founding Officer and Chair of the Healthcare Special Interest Group of ATP, and serving two terms as Chair of ATP’s Industrial-Organizational division. Dr. Waldschmidt currently serves on the Board of Directors of ATP.
Dr. Waldschmidt is a passionate advocate and defender of testing and the testing industry, most notably through an article defending ATP that was published in The Industrial-Organizational Psychologist (https://bit.ly/4e4Y3Mv). Dr. Waldschmidt has presented at numerous professional meetings –ATP, NCME, SIOP, AOM, the American Dental Education Association, and the American Association of Dental Boards—and to state regulatory boards throughout the US. Prior to his work with educational admission and licensure testing for the ADA and JCNDE, Dr. Waldschmidt oversaw the psychometric research and development of wide-ranging tests for use in personnel selection, including a personality test that he co-authored.
Dr. Waldschmidt is a seasoned measurement professional with broad expertise (assessment design, content development, psychometric analysis, formulating policy, advising, promoting, innovating, and establishing strategic direction and vision). Dr. Waldschmidt graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude with an Honors B.A. in Psychology from Marquette University. He received his Masters and Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Michigan State University and the Illinois Institute of Technology, respectively.
