Children learn to speak at different speeds and therefore, it is often not easy to recognize abnormalities in language acquisition in the first few years of life. However, early support is very important to give children a good start to their school years. In order to be able to reliably assess the level of children’s language development, it was necessary to develop an automatic speech recognition system for spontaneous speech of 3-year-old children. This tool uses an automated AI-supported screening process for language development milestones to identify potential irregularities and delays at an early stage. The children's speech is automatically recorded in a playful setting. Professionals receive reliable and precise information on which children are falling behind and which educational measures can be used to support the children individually.
With this instrument, we want to ensure that all children have equal opportunities and prerequisites for the transition from kindergarten to school.
