Name
Challenges and Assessing the Effectiveness of Reasonable Adjustments in High-stakes Assessment
Description

The rising proportion of candidates with disabilities requesting adjustments presents a significant challenge in high-stakes assessments, like the Solicitors Qualifying Examination Assessment providers are legally required to provide reasonable adjustments (RA), but assessing their effectiveness ensuring the assessment is fair is complex. Investigating this diverse cohort is analytically difficult because multiple variables must be accounted for to ensure clear and accurate findings This session will detail the analytical challenges, including the difficulty of segmenting candidates with disabilities into meaningful groups, and share key findings from our rigorous analysis using multivariate statistical techniques. We argue that using this method alongside robust ongoing monitoring is vital to build a sound, empirical evidence base for RA. This systematic commitment to clear evidence strengthens the assessment’s validity argument and ensures fairness in professional licensure
